I picked up an old Sterling Scout boat trailer off craigslist about a month ago, it looks to me to be pretty old, but I have no idea of the year, I live in Oregon, and I don't believe that a trailer that small needs a license, I know my utility trailer that has an 1,800 GVWR doesn't need one, so when I got this trailer I wasn't concerned about a title, it's got a single spring axel like the old rear axels on a model T, it's a little thing, for a little boat and measures 12 feet from the back of the trailer to the front of the tongue.

The trailer has been modified and re-modified over the years and it looked pretty ugly when I got it, so I tore it apart, right down to removing every nut and bolt on it, and cleaned up the welds, stripped the frame, re worked the fenders so they look like they actually belong on it, (they were sitting about 2 feet above the tires on welded extensions, that has all been removed) I ground off all the bunk extensions and rollers that had been welded on it and started repainting it over the weekend and I think it's going to look pretty good, I cleaned up the original winch post, and pretty much have the parts (bunks and rollers) ready to go back on it when it comes time to re-install them on the trailer but thought I'd wait until I found a boat for it (yup, don't have a boat to put on it yet, looking for a little 12 foot aluminum)

sorry for the long drawn out description but I do have a couple of questions, first off, does a boat trailer this small need a license? And second, any way of finding out just exactly how old it is? The data plate says "Sterling Boat Trailers Salem, Ohio" and the serial number is S-14827 and the metel serial number plate says the model as a "scout"

thanks, Stuart
