Stern Drive failure

Had a U-joint replaced (again) in 2 years for corrosion and when I went to test the system the upper housing shaft crashed through the upper housing immediately after launching the boat off the trailer!! Had to use a trolling motor to get back on the trailer. I had brought the boat to get an overheat problem fixed at speed! The mechanic called me back after i dropped it off again and said Volvo stated I must have jumped the boat or something as that is not supposed to happen! I was at a bass fishing lake in a no wake zone! Looking online, it seems that aan engine-outdrive misalignment can cause "catastrophic" drive failures AND water leakage that may have caused the u-joint corrosion. The same mechanic replaced the u-joint 2 years ago... Any other thoughts on what can cause the upper shaft to dislocate and crash through the upper housing? It was extruded about 2 inches above the housing. I am having trouble posting and putting pics on here.

I have a Volvo Penta 5.7 GSi with Duo prop, year 2000. Till the pic function gets resolved, this has worked for others. Go to photobucket, create an account, upload pics there, after uploading and viewing a photo you should see some links with code on the side of the photo. Copy the html version and paste it here in the post box and click reply and see if your photos show up.

Having corrosion issues on the ujoints is not supposed to happen. This tells me that water is getting into your bellows. When water comes in, its next path is into the drive and mixing with the gear oil. Post the pics and model nos. of the drive and engine and go from there.

Shifting at high RPMs causes this, what's your idle speed?
