Had a U-joint replaced (again) in 2 years for corrosion and when I went to test the system the upper housing shaft crashed through the upper housing immediately after launching the boat off the trailer!! Had to use a trolling motor to get back on the trailer. I had brought the boat to get an overheat problem fixed at speed! The mechanic called me back after i dropped it off again and said Volvo stated I must have jumped the boat or something as that is not supposed to happen! I was at a bass fishing lake in a no wake zone! Looking online, it seems that aan engine-outdrive misalignment can cause "catastrophic" drive failures AND water leakage that may have caused the u-joint corrosion. The same mechanic replaced the u-joint 2 years ago... Any other thoughts on what can cause the upper shaft to dislocate and crash through the upper housing? It was extruded about 2 inches above the housing. I am having trouble posting and putting pics on here.
