Looking for suggestions on how to remove Monarch/Moor brand drive locks from these two '87 a-one drives! Boat was brought in for cable service and the owner bought this beast last year butt failed to secure the lock keys! These baby's are tough and rusty.Tryin for minimal drive damage (or course!).

Without hurting the drive? This bad boy is on the center bolt,up in the corner, tight against the drive with a flat side made into the lock to prevent turning the outer part of the lock. The manufacturer says there are about 1million possible key combos available and no # on this lock to order a new key.

Are hose locks a pure SS material or ?

If there good SS then a plasma cutter BUT it cuts everything :(

If there not a pure SS material then

If you have someone good with a OXY/ACC torch they should be able to only dammage one stud and some paint on eack drive

If there NOT good it would be a BAD idea :)

Re: Stern drive lock removal

I'd be using a 3 inch cut off saw, installing smaller (worn) cutting disks as I neared the drive housing to minimize the damage. But face it,the locks have to come off.As long as you cut along the center of the stud, any cutting into the upper drive should not hurt it.

Certainly not your fault the customer doesn't have the key ! I do doubt there a million, though.

This beast is a threaded to the stud center cylinder that is keyed like GM spoke hub caps were with a 1/4 " offset center hole that the key/tool fits in and turns the cylinder/nut inside of a stationary heavy ss coller that has a flat side against the drive to prevent it from movin. The two parts R rusted tight together. I am gonna try the smoke wrench on it today and sea if I can get them to move independantly. They have been P.B.soakin 4 daze with no luck.( called locksmith 1st day and he laughed!) May try to braze a 1/4 20 to the inner cylinder.( pretty, white drives!)
