Hello everyone, I'm new to this boat thing so bare with me. I recently bought a 07 Bayliner with a 5.0 liter engine and an alpha 1 out drive. I went to run the engine to make sure every things running ok, I lowered the stern drive, put the muffs on, turn the water on and fired the engine up. While running the engine I looked at the stern drive to ensure water water was being discharged out the back, I wasn't getting any water and got the overheat alarm so I shut the engine down. My question is shouldn't these pumps pull suction right away ? Or am I doing something wrong ? Does air need to somehow be bled from the engine to get the pump to pull suction, or do you think I just have a bad stern drive water pump. Any help would be appreciated.
