stern light fix?

I keep breaking my stern/anchorage light. I tried a rotating mount so that the light would fold flat for putting on the cover, but broke the swivel mount on one, and the globe on another. I'm thinking of mounting a waterproof cigaret lighter socket on the bow with an aluminum bracket at the right angle, and putting a matching socket on the bottom of a short (8") light pole to plug in when I need to run at night or anchor. How does that sound to you?

Don't you think that maybe the light may vibrate out of socket? Maybe come up with a way of securing it. You can buy a removable light that comes with a socket that will allow you to latch it down. Similuar to what you are fabricating.

Regardless where you mount the stern (all around) light, it must be the highest point on the boat. Something mounted with a cigarette style outlet will not stand the vibration and wind resistance unless braced. Why not mount a standard stern light socket at the back of the pontoon. Stick the pole into the socket like nearly every other recreational boat on the planet. I have two storage areas on the back of my pontoon that would easily accept such an arrangement. You could even mount the socket on one of the rails if there is no flat surface on which to mount it.

My globe is busted too, but I think it happened while pulling the boat home. I'm having trouble finding a matching globe. Guess from now on, I'll have to bungee the thing down for trailering.

I'll look into the socket; thanks. I just want to put the top up and down without busting a light.

When we lost our globe - I too couldn't find a replacement but when i was at the boat mechanic I asked him to find one - he did no problem.
