So I was looking for a safety flag to mount on the new Zoom transom and ran across these flag / strobe light combos. The lights are available in red or white and can be set to a constant on mode. I was thinking this could serve double duty (white LED) as the stern nav light since the 1 watt LED should be visible at 360 degrees for at least a mile. Good idea?

That's a general purpose signaling device. I bet the led won't be visible at even 100 meters distance.
Me, I have a similar issue with flag (mandatory in Spain for security reasons, although I believe it's internationally mandatory). It seems that patch pole flags are intended to be glued only to hypalon sponsons...

The flag would be mounted to a stainless bracket on the transom like the one shown in the pic but not using the back plate. From what I've read a 1W led should be visible for a mile.
