I have an alpha one gen 2. Should there be prop end play. Or prop shaft end play. I had a SS prop on it and it had no end play. Put an aluminum on her with the same thrust as the SS prop. I have end play???

There should be about 1/8" end float of the propeller shaft. Sounds like the thrust hub for the SS prop is not the right one. (Yes, some different props require a different hub). Is maybe one prop a rubber hub and the other a plastic 'Flo-torq II' hub?

Here are some pictures of the different hubs.

Chris........

I have bout an 8th play, maybe 1/4 at most. Do you want play? Will a different thrust fix this or dont worry bout it? Im using the flo-torque

Youy should be seeing end float of the propeller shaft. If not, the prop is making contact with the housing. Do both props have a flo-torq II hub?

Yes both have the flo torque....there is ever so slight play with the SS. Not near as much as the alum though.

Ayuh,..... The question is,.... in the prop shaft to lower unit, or 'tween the prop, 'n prop shaft,..??

The prop shaft should move, in/ out 'bout an 1/8",......

There should be No play, 'tween the prop, 'n prop shaft,....

I stand directly behind the prop and can pull it towards me about 1/8th to 1/4in and push it back to bow. Basically. Pull n push ith the alum prop. SS was rock solid, no push or pull

Ayuh,.... I understand the prop moves, but is it 'tween the prop, 'n prop shaft,..??

The prop shaft is Supposed to push/ pull 'bout 1/8",.....

If the fit is correct, there should be absolutely identical play no matter what prop you have installed. The prop is pinched TIGHT onto the shaft between the nut and the thrust washer. If there is a difference in play then something is not fitted right.

It fits nice ON the shaft, no play....I'm getting the movements it's suppose to then based off your response. The shaft moves in n out about an 1/8. So that's normal, ya?

I'm confused. Let's talk about one thing at a time.

The propshaft with NO prop on. Shaft moves in and out about 1/8" to 1/4", but NO sideways movement. This is correct and normal.

Aluminium prop: tight on the shaft (ie, no movement between prop and shaft), but shaft still moves 1/8" to 1/4". This is also correct.
Stainless prop: tight on shaft, no movement in and out. You have the wrong thrust washer.

Can you provide photos of the forward ends of the props and the thrust washers?

Everything you said is correct....funny thing is, I took off the prop and thrust...went to town to the boat store and yes, wrong thrust for the SS prop. This is my fault. I changed props but didn't change the thrust as well....lesson learned!
