:grumpy: Well fellas I put my '87 19' Blue Fin 2.3 Cobra (vertical drive model 984540) in the water this afternoon and I am still having a shifting problem. This spring I replaced the ESA module and that seems to be working fine. Basically from N to D it's fine. From D to N there needs to be constant pressure and jiggling of the shifter handle and after @ 10 seconds it disengages. From N to R again I need to keep pressure on the shifter and eventually it engages into R. Getting it back into N is another struggle with the shifter.

Do you guys think I will need to adjust, lubricate or replace the actual shifting cables and if I do, could a tinkerer like myself tackle this kind of job armed with a Seloc manual or should I leave this to the professionals??

The motor and drive seem to be operating flawlessly but getting it into N and R is a real kick in the butt. And please don't tell me the cable that may need replacing is $750.:faint2:

750$ to replace the cable?? WOW!!! I'm gonna move to NY and get a job.
What might be happening? The shift mechanism might be gummed up.
Remove the drive and check the shift mechanism at the bellhousing.
The bellcrank, it has brass bushings and the corrosion gets under and around the end of the bellcrank.
You will have to remember the turns of the screws and such as it takes a special tool to set the shifter.

You could probably change the shift cable yourself. Then I'd get the tools for the adjustment.
Get an alignment tool too.
