stiff steering on Glastron CVX-16

I have a 1983 Glastron CVX-16 that has had very stiff steering since I got it (5-6 years ago). There is a tension adjustment bolt on the steering box, and I made sure it is as loose as possible. I also added a seal/fitting with a grease zirc to the to place where the shaft leaves the sheath at the stern, and filled it full of grease. It made no difference.

The boat handles fine, it just seems that the steering should not require so much effort. Any ideas from other Glastron owners?

try to loosen the NUT that HOLDs the STEERING WHEEL on.. see how tight that is.. it should be a lock nut..

I have a 84 bass boat glastron. It had stiff steering when my dad bought it new and finally locked up on me a few years ago.

I took it to a boat shop and they removed one of the steering cables that was stuck and told me that glastron installed dual cables and they allways fight each other and are stiff.

Just remove one of your cables.

If yours is like mine you can look under the wheel and see two cable connections.

Mine drives one handed now!

How can the tightness of the steering wheel nut affect how difficult is it to turn it? Doesn't make sense to me.

Stiff steering typically is either the cables themselves, or the swivel bracket on the motor.
