I have a 1985 Lowe 17' fish and ski with a 1987 Mariner 90 that I bought off a guy. The boat sat exposed to the weather for a year and I am just about finished with fixup/cleanup. I have noticed when I took it out the steering seems to be kind of stiff. I put two or so pumps of marine grease on the grease fitting where the steering cable connects to the motor. My question is: do you put grease in until you see it come out the seals on each side? It seemed like after 2 or so pumps I was getting resistance. Maybe there is not enough.
Throttle is a bit stiff also. I noticed two holes on the throttle housing with labels that say "detent" and "friction". I am assuming you can adjust the friction screw to lessen friction? I have no idea what "detent" is or means.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
