Stiff throttle cables?

Im 18 and just purchased my first boat (1990 Bayliner Capri). The motor seems to run and idle fine (Force 120) but the throttle cables are crazy stiff in the forward and reverse position. Any ideas? New Cables? If so where could i find them at?
Thanks
John.

ANY!!! Boat sales or boat store will help with this.

If your trying to shift when the motor isn't running then they can be very stiff and even brake something. Have someone turn the prop as you shift.
Good luck.J

Before you go wild replacing things, do a quick check!

Remove the quick connects inside the engine, then work the control. If the cables now move easily, you have binding in either the throttle or shift links.
If the movement is still stiff, then it is either binding in the cables themselves or the control box. SO: remove the cables from the control box and try to move them by hand. If you can't, then the cables need to be replaced. If they move freely, then it is the control box. In this case you would need to disassemble it, re-lube and reassemble, being careful not to cause any internal binding.

It is not a difficult job, just take a couple of photos for reference if you have never done it before.

Oops that might have been my problem, i wasn't running the motor while trying to move it! Looks like i just learn something new.
I will check like you advised Mr. Frank.
Thank you both!
