I have a 1980 50HP Johnson outboard.
The remote control is original OMC.
The remote control had been gone through, greased and inspected.
I have new cables.
If the throttle cable is not attached to the throttle arm on the engine, the remote control is smooth and the cable extends full way.
With the throttle cable attached to the throttle arm on the engine, (the engine not running), the throttle control is very stiff and does not go all the way forward.
I removed the throttle arm, inspected it, cleaned off the old grease and put new grease on the parts.
Still the cable is stiff and will not extend full throttle.
I have not had this boat (1965 Renell 17 foot.) in the water yet,as I have been working on it.
I did test the engine without the cables and the engine runs very good.
It's just the problem with the throttle cable when it is installed.
The only things I can think of at this time is:
1. Something in the remote control is not able to take the pressure of the cable when attached. (As said earlier, the control was inspected, grease etc..)
2. The cables are new but possibly defective?
3. Too much tension on the idle arm spring? (Although it appears to be original parts.)
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
