Hi, My son in law has a 2002 Crownline 215 with a Mercruiser 5.7 vortec engine and a bravo 1 outdrive .
He recently had a new shift cable installed along with some other engine work but now when he engages forward gear the throttle lever is very stiff to operate but is ok in throttle only mode.
I had a look a couple of days ago and found that by disconnecting the shift assist device on the bracket next to the carb, things became a lot easier (although not as smooth as my Volvo SX). The shift assist springs appear to be ok but are quite stiff to compress. Can he do without this device or has anyone any ideas?
We could of course take the boat back to the guy who did the work but he is on holiday and it is a 100 mile round trip and so it would be good if we could fix it ourselves.
Thanks in advance
