from my previous post i stated that we had had a failure of our flywheel and stator on our 1995 175 hp Johnson outboard... now i have have another question if you don't mind.. well we bought a new flywheel and stator and had them installed .... before we had no power coming out of the stator.. now we have power coming out of the stator to the powerpack but NO power coming out of the powerpack to the coils...the mechanic says powerpack is shot. the question is could the damn kill switch be the problem? we suspected it from the very start of this problem..the mechanic pulled off the wire in the center of the ignition switch a black and yellow wire i think and said that disabled the kill switch.... does that disable the kill switch? could the kill switch be killing the powerpack? i guess it's possible what ever took out the flywheel and rotor also took out the powerpack at the same time...if so do you think it could also take out the coils???
sorry for so many questions..but we are into this for over a grand and still no motor...can anybody think of a way to be sure that the kill switch is not the problem?
again thanks for any help you can give... oldgringo

Unplug the red cannon plug and check for spark by jumping the solenoid. Let us know if you then have spark or not.

Big red main harness plug. Connects the boat harness to the engine harness. Unplug it and check for spark. If you have spark now the problem is from the plug forward, maybe the key switch. If you still don't have spark you've verified everything from the plug forward is fine.

Just check for spark. If you try to start it and it does, you'll have no way to shut it off.

Been there, done that and I was just checking for spark and the thing started right up. Kind of scary when your not expecting it.
