had posted about 1986 evinrude mod #E70ELCD on the 29th of june was having fuel problems converted over to a non VRO because it was acting like a lack of fuel. I took my boat out and it ran great afterwards, took wife and kids out over 4th weekend and ran great to camping spot then went to store on sunday and it started to plane out and fell flat on her face just like it did before I changed fuel pumps. acts like a lack of fuel but not sure could it be coils breaking down or is there other things it could be? Starting to get baffled.Pulled out plugs look like they are burning good.

I'd start by checking the spark...it should jump a 1/2 inch gap and be bright blue. If needed you can purchase a spark checker at any auto parts place for $5.

Assuming you have good spark, I'd pull off the carbs and give them a thorough cleaning. Good maintenance procedure even if it turns out not to be the problem.

If you have a manual, you can run through a variety of tests on the coils and powerpack to check them out. If you don't have a manual, I'd suggest getting one as it is invaluable in troubleshooting/fixing your outboard.

Good luck!
