Have now adjusted floats, although they were dang close prior. put the idle screws back at the "default" of 1 1/2 turns from seated. Don't know where else to go now. Still will not idle and bogs and dies after running full for about 30 seconds. Here again is a breakdown of what has been done:

carb kits
floats adjusted
fuel pump kit
new hoses and primer bulb
new water pump
new gas
tank is vented
new plugs
compression 115 all 3 cylinders
timing (belt) right on reference mark

Now what???

Re: still no idle, still bogs

Just one thing that i found when my engine was bogging and that was the incorrect fuel connector which allowed air into the fuel system.

Hi myelo
I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread, but I've got the same problem with the same engine!

My one won't idle, and bogs if you try to open the throttle. I have worked out that I probably need a fuel pump kit because if I squeeze the primer bulb, it'll smooth out and the revs will pick up. But I still get fuel leaking from the carb throats sometimes, which is puzzling me. I have cleaned and rebuilt the carbs, but the kit I got didn't have new float needles and valves.

Is rebuilding the fuel pump pretty straightforward?

Thanks
Steve

I had the same problem and mine was timing related. Good luck, Tim

Was the timing off/advance or did the poinnter have to be readjusted? what was the motor doing?
Rebuilding the fuel pump is simply a matter of replacing the worn parts and checking for build up/cleanout ,reassembling.

Laker

The timing was not off at least on the "pointer". Fuel pump rebuild is simple..clean, new gaskets, new bladder, etc, just be careful not to overtighten connection, I broke my first one and ended up having to buy a new pump. The motor is hard to start, will finally start w/warm-up lever forward. will not idle, so have to QUICKLY pull back warm-up lever, and push into forward, "milking" it a little back and forth before it will go. It will finally kick in and go, but then bogs and dies after about 20 seconds of throttle. Really cannot figure it out, but if it's the stator, seems kinda strange behavior for that, but who knows!

Myelo - Do you have an enrichener valve on this engine? Try turning it clockwise all the way (this manually shuts off the enrichener).

Sounds like your engine is flooding with fuel . . . if you have a hard time starting the motor (open it for 5 to 10 seconds and then turn it off again)
