Still no spark...

I recently posted a topic about my 1996 225HP Johnson ocean pro with no spark. I have performed all of the tests in my manual, except a couple that required special equipment. Each tested resulted the way the manual said it was supposed to. The stator tested fine, but there was no way to test the power pack. The only test I could find was the output test, but if I have no spark, I can't test the power pack. After removing the power pack, I noticed a broken wire between the stator and the power pack. The wire was brown. I repaired the wire but the motor still has no fire. I don't get it. The ignition and kill switch are working properly. Does anyone have any recommendations besides spending a ton of money at the dealer? Please help....

I wish I could give you some secrets, but don't know any short cuts around the tests. The broken wire betwen the stator and pack is interesting. Why was it broken?Brown and brown/yellow wires are usually from the charge oil.But they don't break on their own.

DHP

Re: Still no spark...

The wire broke due to corrosion from salt. I repaired the damaged wire and put new connectors on the remaining 3. I am leaning toward a bad power pack. I tested the yellow/red power wire at the power pack which comes from the ignition switch & cranking solenoid. I tested the stator and it read the proper ohms as specified. It would seem the problem would be in the power pack but I am wondering if the stator could be damaged since that broken wire was arcing to ground numerous while trying to crank??? Back to the drawing board....
