Well I removed the thermostats and the t/stat assy. (After talking to a reputable outboard mechanic). Just got home from the river and the damn thang is still running hot (long steady horn when runnig). Is there a chance the impellar can **** water and still be bad?? and yes it is pissin cold water at idle as well as full throttle.
I would like to rule that out before i go trying to change the water deflectors? or does anyone have an alternate idea???
Thanks for any help...

Yes, the impeller can be bad even if you are seeing a good pee stream. What you are seeing is not the water that has been circulated through the engine. Can you hold your fingers on the head for any length of time or is it scalding hot? Does the horn come on right away when it's running or does it take awhile? If it's been some time since it's been changed or it has sat for a long time, best change it....

Oh yeah... it's a 95 evinrude 112, and i did feel the heads after it idled for about 10min and they were hot but i'd say after about 2 sec to the touch.

and the horn came on after about 2 min of running full throttle, didn't think to feel the heads at that point.

No reputable outboard mechanic will recommend running that engine without t-stats. Replace the water pump and t-stats. When you have the t-stat cover off back flush the engine to clear out any debris. If that does not do it you may need to pull the head & check for a blown head gasket. Is this a salt water engine? What do the plugs look like?

Yes it was runn itn the salt water. I pulled the plugs... they didn't look that bad. right sides looked a little black, left sides almost clean. I did notice the right side plugs had almost no gap too them. So, i regapped all the plugs cleaned them and put em back in. the guy i bought it from said he had recently replaced the impellar, but the more i think about it, i believe he sold this boat due to an overheat problem. But i like her so... It just would have been nice to have a heads up on the problem.

Re: Still OverHeating

If I end up pullin the heads what is the torque value and is there a certain sequence to follow when putting it back together??

yes the sequence is most like ly numbered on the head itself. but if its not, start removing the head bolts in a circular motion from the outside in. then whenputting the head back on do the same motion, but start with the middle and work out. remember to clean off all old gaskets and the matting surface should be totaly clean and even. do not put any gasket sealer compound on the gaskets. u can put the bolts in dry or with loctite and i believe the torque is 25-30 ft/lbs but u might want to check with someone else but i know i'm not far off.
