still having problems starting it....disconnect the fuel line will start..after it airs out a little. holding open the elec. choke starting goes faster. reconnect fuel bad idle then dies. try to go into full throttle it dies. i took the carb apart again, cleaned let soak, lots of grime in bottom of bucket this time, blew it out...a few bigger pieces came out..new plugs, new fuel line, checked for air leaks, tightened all hose clamps...made sure none of them were pinching fuel line, rebuilt carb the works...adjusted low speed mixture screw..cleaned screen on fuel pump, did test on it, found no leaks, seems almost as though it is still flooding, quite a bit of oily gas coming out of exaust...although not as much as the first time. could the fuel pump be somehow pumping too much into the carbs...should i now go to possible electrical probs. removed flywheel also....everything under seemed like brand new. points were barely dirty...

Hi Headrick
This should be a fairly simple problem to run down. You said you rebuilt the carb. Did you install a new float? Did you install it correctly? Did you adjust the float level as per your manual? Did you reuse old float? Did you test it? Does it float? Did you install a new little round gasket on the main nozzle? Float level and main nozzle leak are top causes of your symptons.

i don't remember reading the part in the manual about adjusting float, i used all new items including float gaskets needle and valve. i'll look again in the manual. to check if float floats, should i just stick it in some water, or try it in the carb?

Hi Headrick
If you installed a new float, There is probably no need to test it. But if it comes to that just float it in a little can of fuel. Yep the manual won't do any good unless you read it. You may have installed the float upside down also.

I have apparently jumped into a post with a beginning somewhere else. But definately sounds like a fuel problem if I read you right:
Try to start a few times and it wont start, you disconnect the fuel supply line and after a while of turning over it will start, run for a little while, stall. Then start the whole process over again??

Good going Headrick! Now don't forget to have some fun, that's the most important part.

Re: still problems with 66 evinrude fastwin

You have fixed the problem by replacing the fuel pump. You had a very small hole in the fuel pump diaphragm, which allowed fuel to leak into that cylinder causing it to flood. The fuel pump gets its "pulse" by the cylinders constant pressure-vacuum with every stroke. :)
