1973 50 HP Evinrude Top carb has no effect on how the motor runs. If I hold my hand over the throat of the carb while the motor is running there is hardly no suction and I can feel a fine mist of gas.If I do the same to the lower carb the motor will stall out. Reed valves check good and both cylinders have 135 pounds of compression. Please help

Re: Still running bad

Hi Tom...curious problem.

How do you know the reeds are OK? Did you remove the reed intake manifold and look at them?

It almost sounds like your jets in the upper carb are plugged up but you must be getting some gas since you posted you feel a mist from the upper carb. Now for this to happen, at least one reed is not sealing off and letting the carb blow back.

Have the carbs been overhauled lately?

I know....lottsa questions but we need to know a little more....thanks.

Re: Still running bad

The carbs were both rebuilt. I looked down in the intake and the reeds are closed. The are the same as the lower reeds. Thanks for the reply

Re: Still running bad

Switch the carbs and see if the problem follows the carb or not.
