Still Struggling With Fuel Line

I've got a problem with my Mercury outboard fuel line. The bayonet connection to my Mercury 50 engine won't disconnect. It's stuck. I can twist the fuel line but I can't push it in or pull it out, unless it's already in the "pushed in" position. I've forgotten, it's been stuck for two weeks now. And It's beginning to wear on me. Like I said, I can twist the bayonet -- maybe even more than an eigth turn -- but nothing happens. It doesn't pop out nor can I pull it out. I've tried wd-40 but it's hard to lubricate the bayonet's interior. Anyone ever had this problem before? I need to resolve this before the snow flies! help!!. Thanks.

Re: Still Struggling With Fuel Line

If you take the cowl off can you get at the mounting points for the receiver end of the conntection from inside? Unfortunately there's a couple hundred miles between me and my engine so I can't go look but I seem to remember that, if you work from the inside out, you may be able to unscrew enough of the fuel system components at the carbs to get the receiver out.

At least then you could go at them both on the workbench to try and unstick them. Perhaps at that point the problem will become obvious.

In fact, the problem may be that the receiver has come partially loose and is just rotating as you turn your end.

As I say, tho -- I have no way of validating this for you except from leaky memory! Good luck.
