I dropped off the 19 high five I tried out last weekend today. Trying out an 18 four blade this time. Hoping to maintain holeshot of the high five with out loosing as much top end.
Well the four blade was awefull. Bad holeshot bad top end and slipped a lot on the way up thru the rpms. Do you think because it was aluminium?
I also tried a Michigan 3 blade 19 aluminium with similar results. The 3 blade was not aggressive on rake or cupping but didn't allow the rpms to get higher than my current 3 blade 21 pitch as rapture.
Is aluminium really that weak of a meterial?
Im thinking my next two to try will be a. Rapture like i have but in 19, and a turbo 2+2 18.
Tabs are just unnecessary drag out of the hole. Sure they bring the bow down faster but I don't have a bow raising/falling on plane issue. I'm just tweaking so I can get my rpms up to proper wot. I have room for better (being picky) holeshot but want to see if I can do it without losing 5 to 6 on the top end like that high five did.
I have never heard of an instance where trim tabs did not significantly improve hole shot, but I guess it is possible. they not only bring the bow down faster they bring the transom up faster and keep it on a plane at lower RPMs. I have heard of reports of small loss of top end, usually 1-2 MPH. sometimes people report faster top end speeds.
I don't know any of your RPM specs to be able to comment on specific props.
I will say that I have personally sworn off aluminum props permanantly for my boats. I am a 100% stainless guy now...always. They ALWAYS perform substantially better when you find the right one. And the more power your boat produces, the more you REALLY notice the difference. You have a 5.7. Therefore IMO it absolutely NEEDS a stainless if you are truly interested in obtaining peak performance. Aluminums just flex way too much under the torque of a bigger motor, and they'll leave a lot of unused performance on the table.
