Re: stingray hydrofoil installation
djvan;

You are experiencing a very common handling problem with the foil, and you may have changed to a more agressive prop.

It is easy to understan once you think about it a bit.
1) the boat is a V bottom and sensitive to listing one side or the other.

2)The prop rotates clockwise, therefore the friction (resistance) at higher speeds will tend to make the boat list to the port side (counter clockwise).

3) The boat manufacturer will compensate for this by adding weight to the starboard side. Ie: the helm is on the starboard side.

4) When adding a foil (extra planing surface) to the motor, you increase the lift area in the center and attempt to balance the boat on the keel (center), like a teeter totter.

5) The foil will also increase lift more as the speed increases ( they provide much more lift at high speeds than at low speeds) when you do not need the lift. This raises the stern and therefore pushes the bow down. This excess bow pressure puts more of the keel in the water and exagerates the problem of the torque list.

The lift on the hull should be disbursed evenly to both sides of the keel not in the center.

You should never lift the boat by the engine for a host of other reasons as well.

Since you did not mention that you did not have the problem before, I suspect something else was changed also such as the prop or the cavitation plate may be lower into the water than before. If the foil runs below the water the problems are even worse. If the boat is set up to accomodate a foil ( motor height, prop, balance etc.) it is usefull in maximizing performance, however simply slapping one on to improve the Hole Shot is not my recommendation.
