Hey people. I read threads on here all the time about how these hydrofoils are pieces of junk. Well, being that my boat came from the previous owner with one installed, i decided to remove it today while out on the lake and try it out. I put it back on 10 minutes later. I had 6 people in the boat, which is a 20 foot bayliner with the 4.3/Alpha one setup, and it was honestly scary without it. I couldnt get the boat on plane as good, and it laid over on its side going about 35 which scared the crap out of me. So I just thought I would share my experience, and say that the hydrofoil actually benefits my boat.

Yup. They make some boats handle better and make others handle worse.

Pretty much the same here with one that came on my outoard. I took it off because of all the negative talk, but then put it right back on because the boat ran so poorly without it.

I think they are a roll-of-the-dice.

I have had a couple motors with them and sometimes they can have some benefits, but I hate the fact that they kill your gas milage and speed. I always take them off.

Corrrectly rigged, they improve fuel usage and often improve WOT as well.

Don't believe what you hear and only half of what you see.

I was told that an tried many different setups but I just like the feel of a naked motor I guess. I hada 1965 Duo X15 with a 60hp johnson on a 6" jacking plate, I put one on it and lot 6mph on gps took it off and played with motor setup and that thing would fly.

I have a 16' aluminum bass style boat with a 50 and made a copy of one I saw in Cabelas, it is a big plate with a lip on the back adn I won't run without it.

I took it off once and it wouldn't plane worth a darn and ran deeper in the water adn I lost quite a bit of top end.

A stated they work really well on so boats and not so well on others.
