Stingray's have a good rep for being well made and are really fast. I wouldn't be surprized if it would run close to 60 with that V6 in it.

Re: 2002 Stingray 190 FX

got me a buddy that's on his second stingray. he had an '07 195, w/220 v6. his wouldn't quite reach 60mph which he was disappointed in. now he just got a '10 205 v8 5.0 vp. i recon he's wanting to reach 60mph. it ain't broke in yet so we don't know it's top speed though. them stingrays do seem to be made for speed. guess my buddy must like the build quality too since he's on his second one. he has already remarked that the new 205 needs smart tabs. has porpoising issues as certain speeds. his 195 required smart tabs too, same reason. i see the one your looking at has a whale tale. one might make the assumption that that boat may have porpoising issues too. ??? food for thought.
good luck in your decision.

A friend of mine has a 99 Stingray 18' with the 3.0. I was very impressed with it.

Re: 2002 Stingray 190 FX

It would be a heck of a boat if in nice shape.

Mine has the exact same hydrofoil on it.

220 HP means its fuel injected.

The thins that concern me -- why new seats on a boat with only 50 hours on the engine -- or is it a new engine too?

I am yet to see one with a solid blue bottom like that?

The 4 blade prop looks nice, wonder what pitch and brand. Fuel injected with the right prop and it will fly, or if the pitch is low with that SE Sport 300 foil, it will have great hole shot and really tow well.

Definitely worth checking out.

The 190s are pretty light (2650 lbs with a v6) yet still pretty roomy (specked at 8 adults).

Re: 2002 Stingray 190 FX

I decided to expand my search throughout South Carolina. If I can find a boat for a good price I don't mind taking a trip. haha well Is there anything yall can tell me about these. Which would you say would be best and 2nd best for wakeboarding and tubing. thanks

I know the 2nd link is the same year as the 2002 Stingray 190 FX I first posted but which would be better for my purposes?

imho ya might as well not bother looking at the 135hp ones. ya don't get much less hp on an i/o. no one ever wants less hp than they have. but they sure do want more. nothing to be done to the 135hp to make it anything other than it is. a good workhorse engine. just smaller and don't handle excess loads (skiers, people, gear, etc) as well as higher hp engines.

as for the diff. between the 190 and the 220 v6's. the 190s carbed, the 220 fuel injected. from my above statement, obviously the 220 is better. but you'll not be able to work on the engine part unless ya got some more specialized tools that most folks other than techs have around. the carb ya can likely at least work on you self. imho again..

They are exactly the same for that, just a different lay out.

Which has seen less salt water? The one that has seen the least salt water will cost you less in replacement parts. Performance will be the same.

That is my $0.02

Expand your search to TN and avoid those beach boats!

Re: Stingray LS or FX 2002

The LS looks real clean. Its by far, from the pictures, the cleanest one of the bunch, IMHO. Ask him where all he has boated with it and what the hours are on it.

Myrtle beach makes me fearful its seen a lot of salt water. Salt water exposure is worse than more hours in a fresh water lake. After a certain amount of hours in salt water, you need to replace all of the exhaust manifolds. They are a maintenance item with a salt water boat and expensive, but not so with a fresh water boat.

From those pictures (unless they are old) he either did mostly fresh water, or did a lot of rinsing and flushing after his salt water use.

Stingrays have wood. Its not a problem unless they are left out uncovered. Plenty of old Stingrays that were cared for still going strong.

In the picture of the Stingray LS it shows the trailer and says it a wesco. what kind of trailer is that? Also can yall tell with the Stingray FX.

Re: Stingray LS or FX 2002

The LS has a galvanized trailer, which is a process applied to the metal. You see its not painted. Galvanized trailers are a must if you live and boat in salty areas. A painted steel trailer like mine will eat away quickly. I know it does not catch the eye, but its a good trailer.

I will try to go look back at the FX.

I am still bothered by why the FX needed new seats and a new sun pad? Did they leave it out uncovered?

Re: Stingray LS or FX 2002

OK -- the FX just seems to be on a painted blue trailer -- the best I can tell with the pic. I cant tell for sure, but it may have some rust showing? If there is rust on that trailer, then you may be looking at trailer work down the road on that one. I have a painted trailer and its fine, brakes and all. I don;t dip it in salt water, though. Even if you don't plan to, if rust has started its going to be an ongoing concern for you till its sanded and painted again. Again -- the pic is not great, so I can't say for sure that is what I see.

Your other difference between these 2 is the FX is mercruiser powered, the LS has a volvo engine and drive. Both have the exact same blocks (GM), but are outfitted differently.

Some people swear by one or the other. Both are equally good, IMHO. Some parts of the country there are less dealers experienced with Volvo. You should not have that problem. Stingray is made in SC and they went all Volvo a couple of years ago -- so one would assume there is dealer support in their home state?

The more I look the more I like the LS better.

yeah I just wanted to stay away from the stainless steel ones if I could, but wouldn't stop me from buying one. Not sure why either the put new seats and new sun pad.

Re: Stingray LS or FX 2002

They are not stainless steel, that would be great. They are painted rough steel -- and eventually rust through chips in the paint, or worse, rust from the inside out. That is what I have and its fine, but if you dip it in salt water you need to flush it big time, or you get lots of rust and corrosion quickly.
