Does anyone know what the stock fuel mixture settings are for a 5.7L Merc (95 Tantrum)? I think it is a Q jet.

I had a buddy who thought he knew what he was doing attempt to adjust them as well as the timing was off bit and it didn't want to idle sometimes. ( Other times it was fine.) Now timing is off A LOT and the fuel mixture is also probably off!!

Anyway I need to know where to go back to stock. I am hooking up a timing light today and the cover says 8' BTDC. But don't know how many turns out Stock fuel mixture setting is? once i get everything back to the correct settings I can adjust from there if needed.

Then when i have the mixture and timing correct I can trouble shoot my idle issue. (If it still isn't fixed.)

Any other ideas of why it might not want to idle sometimes and other times it runs and idles fine?

Thanks in advance!!!

There really is no "stock" setting, but one and a half turns out from the fully seated position will usually get you in the ball park. Be sure not to crank down the screws. Nice and easy once it reaches the bottom. Then one and a half turns out.

Download the manual from the adults only thread at the top of the page.

It says the merc manuals are NLA ( No Longer Availible???)

Any other place to get it??

Thanks Fishermark.... I will try those settings

Thanks everyone....
I got it back to were it should be now!!

The guys had is so far off timing wise 25* off!!!!!!!!
he had it about 16* after instead of 8* BTDC

WOW!! What a differance that makes...

I adjusted my mixture and got it zeroed out and then went out about 1 full turn. Seems to be running great now.... (will richen it up more at the lake if needed.)

I plan on water testing it tomorrow!
