Pros and cons? Not much porting if any to do on the raised runner eq head. Small ports should be great for volicity and fast burn chamber a + ?

I guess you guys aren't going to care as most of ya don't have your 383s hanging off the end of your boat. Could a mod move this for me ? Lol

What is the cost of upgrading...There is very little to be gained unless you intend to run above 5500 rpm

In small block chevy heads its hard to go wrong with dart.

For a marine eng I would stick with iron.

About ten years ago I swaped out a set of 292turbo heads that had been ported as far as they could go for a out of the box dart iron eagle's.
Was a big jump in performance across the board.

If they perform the way i'm told they do you have the best of both worlds, down low grunt + the higher top end you mention. I got mine on ebay for $210 each bare with bronze guides and harden exhaust seats with 3 angle cuts on the seats. It's already known you can over heat them with out the crack problems of the vortecs. They are much thicker on the deck surface and over all better quaility than the factory head.

Dart are a good head. Out of the box the EQ 180cc are a step above the 180cc dart iron eagle's. There is no meat left to cut out of the EQ heads runners and bowls. I was almost ready to send these back just because of the hype of the vortec heads but ran across a porter who is familer with both heads. He told me to stick with the EQs. I let him know TQ was more important than h.p. that this was a marine app. He says i will get all i want and more. The design of these heads is new. Much newer than the iron eagles. Imagine a dart iron eagle ported out all the way. The beefy EQs are cast that way with raised runners and fast burn chambers.

Has anyone noticed the mercruiser 383 and big block forged cranks on ebay? Lol

These came from the mercruiser plant in Oklahoma that shut down. I just bought a new sbc Mercruiser 3.750 forged crank for $275 with the single piece rear seal. These cranks were built for mercruiser by kellogg cranks. He has about 10 of them left and 18 big block cranks left.
