I need some help on wiring a stop button I have a 57 Evinrude 35hp it has a starter with no generator. I have the solenoid wired with a starter button no key switch. I have the wires run from each set of points now do I tie them together on one side of the stop button and the other side to ground so when the button is pressed the motor will stop running?????? Also can I connect them to the center post of the vaccuum cut out switch or does it have to be separated ????? Thank you for all the help what a great site

connect one point wire to each side of the button. When you connect them, the engine will stall.

What Chris said. In theory, when one set of points is open, the other is closed, effectively tying the open points to ground when the switch is closed.

One of the wires does go to the center terminal of the vacuum switch, then proceeds on to the stop button. Other wire goes directly to the stop button. When you press the stop button, the two wires are electrically connected together, stopping the motor.
