Storing Outboard???

I have a 1990 70 HP Evinrude that I am going to have to store for about 1 year. Normally, I only have it layed up for about 6 Months out of the year, so I do all the normal "Winterizing" care & all is well in the spring. My question is, what other precautions do I need to take, in addition to the normal procedure, to make sure the Motor will be protected for an extended period of time? I'm mainly concerned about making sure the insides stay lubricated and "free", and that the gas left in the carbs does not gum up. Will stabilizer protect the fuel for 1 year and what is the best thing to do to protect the insides of the Engine? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks,

Re: Storing Outboard???

that's about all you can do..
add stabilizer to your fuel & fogg it..

i run fogger as reccommended & then shut the motor down.. what stabilized fuel is in the carbs ,, stays in there.. can't hurt nuthin' .. IT'S STABILIZED...

many folks run it dry.. but i can never co-ordinate the fogger.. plus i don't like dry... dry means dirt & dry seals & gaskets to me..

I'd also take after fogging and pull the plugs and give it a squirt of (real) oil also (thicker). I'm a fan of running it dry (just a prefrence)and then I'd spray the underhood and outside down with wd-40.

Thanks for the info, Guys! I just want to make sure I don't hurt anything during an extended layover. The extra oil sounds good to me! I tend to go along with you, Crab Bait, about not running it dry. I'm a little leary of that! I'm a bit concerned that the gas, even with stabilizer, will go bad after a year. Thanks again for the info!!

i read in some magazine that stabilizer is to last a year .. but also said to must be the rite ratio... it's not like alot more to less fuel works better .. it makes things worst..
