In the advent of the seemingly ever increasing frequency of storms, tornados and the like, going forward, should it be mandatory for safe shelters to be included in all new houses being built?
I would say no. Don't have any of those out here , but it seems to me the only natural disaster you can really shelter yourself from would be a tornado. Get underground and stay underground. Hurricanes, floods, heavy rain and wild fires, the only real option is to get out of the way. Earthquakes you can only be prepared to take the best cover available and have supplies to carry you through a week or more.
Newport time as QC said the other day whats a basement. deffinition in thread. No to storm shelter mandates, next would be mandated safe room, then we wouldnt need guns because we had safe rooms. then as their was no one to molest or kill, we would do away with police. You see where this is leading? We would be living in safe rooms and storm shelters and never leave the house, we would all be unemployed and starve to death.
I would say no. We already had enough of a problem with people in New Orleans not leaving during the hurricane. I believe that if new houses had a shelter that it would give people a false sense of security and noone would leave in a true emergency.
