Strange engine behavior when coming off plane

Just took my new (to me) '06 Regal 2000 out today and noticed a strange behavior in the engine/ throttle. Not sure which it is, or if its even normal since its been at least 10 years since I owned my last boat! Things have likely changed, but when planing at almost full throttle and I lower the speed a bit (not all the way to idle, maybe about 1/2 throttle), the speedometer drops to 0, the boat slows way down and when I attempt to push the throttle back up slightly, the bow raises very high and it takes a good ~5-10 seconds for the boat to finally start moving. I know for sure I didn't push the throttle that far down and it didn't move on its own since its very tight. I really don't recall this ever happening on any other boat that I've owned. Is this normal or is there something different that I'm doing that I shouldn't be? Seems like it could be semi dangerous if Im trying to slow down just a bit to take on a big wake of another boat and there is someone behind me. Any advise? Thanks.

Oh I should add that the engine was trimmed about 1/2 when this was happening.

What size/model Regal is this? Engine & outdrive. More info always helps with responses.

I am thinking you are trimmed up too much and possibly there is too much weight in the stern.

you answered your own question. lower the trim

youre falling off plane, and your trim is way too high to get your boat back up to plane quickly

all the way in (down) with the drim when coming out of the hole, and when the boat gets on plane, start raising the trim. generally not more than 1/4. as you slow down, you need to drop down

Thanks, I guess thats what my problem is. I figured if I was going right back up on plane I didn't need to drop the trim but I guess I need to start getting into a habit of doing so. Might take some practice as if Im only slowing down for less than 30 seconds it can be a pain to have to keep adjusting the trim as well.

I wear the trim button out on the controls. trim down for holeshot, trim up as its coming out of the hole. it becomes second nature.
