Hello guys, just want to say thanks for the all the help in my previous posts.

The Boat info:
1987 Bayliner Capri
1985 OMC 3.0L 4cyl motor
OMC Cobra OutDrive

Now I'm having trouble with my outdrive. When I push the throttle forward from neutral there is a loud, fast clicking noise coming from the outdrive. If I push the throttle forward a little more there is a distinctive loud clanking noise and the clicks and everything go away and the prop starts spinning. (Prop doesn't spin when clicking noise is occurring). Keep in mind this is while running it with a water hose, hasnt been in water since i put on the new outdrive. Would it change if the boat was in the water? Should i try taking it to the lake or will it do damage? I havent taken done anything since i noticed the noise because I dont want to mess anything up!! So I'm trying to look for some help if anyone has had this problem before, if so any help is appreciated!!

Re: Strange, fast clicking noise!!

Your shift is not adjusted right. The clicking noise is the shift dogs not quite engaging and will quickly damage them.

That's what I've seen online on one post. Thank you! How do i go about repairing it? Do you have to remove the whole outdrive? Or do you adjust from the engine bay?

I've just searched around online. Do you know of any speacial ticks or tips to doing this that makes it easier? also do you need the "speacial tool" or is there a substitute? Thanks again!

You are going to destroy your drive. Stop trying to shift it on muffs.
You need to shift it quickly and firmly.
Read the hastings article and use a good ruler.
These drives should shift with a nice clean "thunk"

Hey guys I started to fix it today removed the outdrive and adjusted the shift cable to 7 5/8 inches and put the bell crank at 90 degrees. Could anyone explain to me on how exactly to adjust the shifter rod on the outdrive? I'm confused about it
