Hi guys!

I have one of my boats currently advertised in a regional ad publication, and received the following e-mail:

" Good day, How are you doing..its nice to view the items you are listed here on recyclers.com...and i,m so interested in it..when i look at the features its have..and i wanted to shipped it directly for my customers overseas...And i will pay you by cashier cheque if you will accept that as mode of my payment..kindly reply me back and lets negotiate on how the payment processing will work out and delivered to you ok Have a nice day hope to hear back from you soonest Fletcher M

Thank You,
Fletcher"

Everything about this sounds like "RUN AWAY"....

Anyone ever been involved with shipping a boat and trailer overseas? It can't be easy...and I know of certified check scams.

Happy boating!

My reply?? Cash only -- you or a representative picks up the boat upon which you get a bill of sale and from there you are responsible for overseas delivery.

To be honest, I wouldn't respond unless James Earl Jones and Eddie Murphy showed up as the king and prince of Zamunda, bearing cash.

Re: Strange response to my boat ad...?

did the response also state that you won an African lottery, that you never entered and that you must claim?? just send a picture , liscense, bank number, SS and address and its all yours?

hahaha such a scam!!

I agree, respond with cash only or bank check that must clear before you ship.. I bet you will get an auto response stating another canned response..like..thanks for blah blah blah and if you want to give up your personal info...

Had it happen to me on craigslist.. some guy selling a boat that wasnt his and wanted you to send him 5K... I found out later the boat was in TX and was going for 18K!!....

Can you imagine being the 1 legitimate person in Nigeria trying to purchase something online?

Talk about having a hard time finding buyers/sellers...

You guys kill me! :p

Based upon the size of my gut, I should have automatically relied upon my 'gut feeling' and not bothered you with this 'carp'!

But, then again...with a new head gasket the buyer could just motor over to the destination of his choosing....

Happy boating!

P.S. Anyone in the Florida Panhandle want a nice boat??? Cash only.

Yep....those scams are around alot.

Most of the ones we see, they "arrange for shipping" and send you the check for the extra, then you give the shipping money (several hundred to several thousand dollars) to their shipping company, check bounces, and you are stuck with it.

Re: Strange response to my boat ad...?

This is only one of possibly hundreds of generic scam replies mailed enmasse.
You notice the interested party mentioned " Your Items". No mention of a boat. This reply could refer to anything from a pair of sneakers to a house.
Your ad isn't actually read, merely answered with dozens of others daily.
Apparently these crooks make money as they keep coming & coming.
Don't reply and run away.

Hi Rocky,

Do not answer, you will lose your time and maybe your money, I live in spain, and I have received the same messages when I've been selling second hand computers and electronics.

My answer, if no money transfered to the bank, no deal.

Crooks of the same ilk watch Kijiji and contact the sellers there. They offer to buy almost anything at the full asking price without even asking about the condition of the item or where it is located.

What I'm wondering is how many people actually fall for these scams. Some victims must do so or else the perps wouldn't keep trying.
