Strange thing happened to my depth finder

I was out today and trying out my not so new lowrance x87 and it was working good for a little while but there was a weird setting so I decided to reset my settings to factory defaults. I did that and then all of the sudden it said the depth was 1000-ish feet. So i just left it be and continued fishing. As I was scooting across the lake about an hour later it all the sudden started working again. Reading the proper depths.

Any idea what the heck could have happened?

Piece of seaweed or bag stuck on transducer? Flew after running high speed?

That was my initial thought. After it started acting funny I checked the transducer and it seemed ok. Maybe I just didn't notice the item on there.

Hopefully it stays working

Re: Strange thing happened to my depth finder

I went out fishing again this weekend and the depth finder worked for the entire trip just until we got back to the landing. Waiting to trailer the boat it jumped to 200' again. I know thats not right, I could see the bottom;)

Any other thoughts of what this could be?

Shallow water (under a couple of feet) can produce some strange results.

Could have been I guess. I'm sure it was maybe 2 or 3 feet at most. It just seems weird that both times out I've had similar issues. The first time I was in about 25-30 FOW. I'll have to test it out this weekend again.
