Strange Vent Hole in Lower Drive

I have a type 1 1971 out drive. My question is, on my lower drive on the right upper side of the output shaft housing there is a casted hole. What is that for none of the books I have say anything about it.

If it`s what I think it is , it was used for a flushing attachment the went directly to the water pump base. but no longer used.
