my boat i a 90 stratos with a 90 200 johnson. When i am taking off i will trim down give the motor throttle and it acts very week i go full throttle and it takes about a minute at full throttle and then the rpm start incresing and then bam it will start running like it should. As soon as it gets on plane for a few minutes the thing starts beeping until i stop and put it in nuetral. The water pump pressure is good the oil is good is this maybe a rev limiter from giving it full throttle at first? the beeping comes in second intervals and is steady.

Re: Stratos boat beeping at me!

The rev limiter has nothing to do with warning horn. If the horn is a steady tone, that could be overheating or fuel restriction warning. A beep every 20 to 30 seconds is oil level in boat oil tank. A beep every other second is a VRO/OMS failure, air leak in oil line, oil restriction, anything that would result in a lack of oil being supplied to the engine. I would advise to quit running it till problem is identified or put oil in gas tank while troubleshooting.

i mix it in the tank currently the automixer has been takin off by a previous owner. This is the second time to have this boat out and had no probs out of it the first time. I did do some rewiring i wonder if they disabled the horn since they were mixing it direct and i wired it back.THe beep is the every other second beep.

If you're running premix it sounds like your vro wiring is not disconnected. Your lag out of the hole is something else. Carbs, timer base sticking, sync & link and ect.

Re: Stratos boat beeping at me!

When i looked last night i did plug the oil pump back in wich had been pluged off so that was probably my beeping i will find out this weekend.
Does that computer reset itself when i unplug the battery cables or is there another step for it to reset??
I was told that when it thinks its not getting oil that it goes into a programed lag mode may not be true will find out this weekend when i take it out.

Well thngs are running great now the alarm was the oil pump that i previously hooked back up, once disconnected the beeping and the lag out of the hole was gone. It got up and ran on command. So the motor has a lag mode when it thinks its not getting oil. And apperently just taking the battery cables off reset the alarm or it might have done it automaticly but ran roughly 18 gallons though it this weekend with no problems. Wich was expensive! Going to have to take out a loan to run it around next weekend! lol

glad it is fixed...but unplugging/pluggin in the vro harness should not have effected the performance in any way..motor does not hve a computer, at least I am unaware of any impact the oil alarm would have on the power pack. but i guess it may be possible..maybe you had some old/bad gas.

On that mtr there is no lag mode when the vro is giving off warnings signals. Only for overheat. The only mtrs that have a lag mode of no oil are the new E-Tecs.

If thats the case then im not sure what was the cause the lag the gas was putin there on the way to the water. And i when on the water last weekend it had lag and beeping the same as when i first posted. I stoped unpluged the wiring disconnected and then connected the battery cables and it instanly had no lag and no beeping. We will see if the problem comes back. as for now its running good.
