First and foremost. Thank you all for this great forum. I have gained so much from all of you. After much research and study, I have made a decision. I bought a 1983 Bayliner 18 ft bow rider . Yes it needs work. Lots. But being forced into retirement due to an accident, I now have a project. Big one. Using this forum, I have learned much. I have worked with fiberglass and wood for many years on other projects so I am confident I will handle this well. It has an aq125 volvo engine that runs real well. The transom has been completely replaced in 2011. All seals, bearing and joints were replaced when motor was out. I have all bills and talked to mechanic myself before I bought boat. So my question is this. I ulled out the floor ect. The stringers and frame need replacing. When I replace them, do I need to glass them directly to hull or is there a spacing required with regards to the hull flexing. Old man Ed thanks you

Re: Stringer and frame replacement.

It is best to leave about a quarter inch gap below the stringers. Space them off the hull with something and bed with thickened resin (best) or loctite pl premium adhesive which needs to cure for about 3 days before glassing or filleting over due to it offgassing.
