Stringer core material?

What is the best core material to use to re-core my stringers? They are fairly large. They are about 2"x6"x8'. The original core is rotting and I have no idea what kind of wood it is. Can I get what I need at home depot, or is there a special supply house? Can marine ply be glued together and cut to make the cores?

pressure treated plywood laminated togeather......
dry the ply....or buy dried.....

laminate using woven ...screw the plys togeather...use pt screws...green...and clamps...dont squeeze out too much resin......

Thanks for the welcome back. I have been a little busy these days. Winter is my time to concentrate on inside projects around the house. My soon-to-be two year old little girl has been running us ragged. Not mention a teenager who thinks school is just stupid.

Sure it is a great idea to have two kids 15 years apart! geez The best of both worlds.

Is pre-dried pressure treated available? If so, where?

Ayuh,......

Unfortunately,... P/T Plywood is usually stored Outdoors at the lumberyards,.....
I always try to buy it ahead of time,+ leave it to dry in the shop before using it.....

For what you're doing,... You can get by with CDX,... It's usually dry when you get it,+ if you Seal it,.....It should last a Good Long Time......

Use Matt to laminate not woven. Matt sticks better.

Yes the f/b sides are still intact. If you are thinking I should consider seacast, well I have. It sure would make life easier. I decided against it because of how the engine and transmission mounts attach to the stringers. The mounts use lag screws straight into the top of the stringers. I guess I could fab some attachment points out of aluminum or something. then use seacast?

Coat a board, any kind of board wrapped with mat/roven and bed in for the stringers. For the motor mounts, several 2x's laminated together will work.
Attach to stringer board, and bed in. Then using the existing f/g as a form, just pour in epoxy, putting in roven in a u-shape so it gets attached to the sides of the f/g as you build it up the height to the top of the existing f/g.
Just make sure any holes in the f/g are sealed, as epoxy will seep through a pinhead hole.
