stringer gap

When i removed the starboard side stringer, i noticed there was a 1/4" - 3/8" gap between the bottom of the stringer and hull. Could this have happened when they installed the stringer system and the polyester shrank as it cured or is it by design? I thought of filling that gap with thickened epoxy to "bed" the stringer in. Any thoughts on this?

Re: stringer gap

Not an expert here, okstatefun. My stringers were well contoured and solidly epoxied to the hull. That's the way I would think it should be. I have seen some reports that indicate that some manufacturers may want the stringer to 'float' in the hull. I don't know.

Re: stringer gap

I've just read that article from Pascal about the stringer gap, but he doesn't mention the type or how much "soft material" to use. I was thinking 5200 as a bedding then using woven roven to laminate the 3\4 douglass fir plywood. I'm using woven roven because that's what was originally laminated on both sides. Is there an alternative to woven roven or is it still the best for this application.
