Re: Stringer and Deck help

What 'other guy' ????

You can use Exterior rated sheathing for the stringers (no really) . . . or if you want you can use a marine grade ply. I would fully glass the stringers . . . If you never want to do stringers on this boat, you could do a fiberglass over foam core stringer.

For the fiberglassing . . . you can use polyester . . . or vinyl ester resin might give you better adhesion and water resistance than polyester.

You can set them with a "peanut butter" "PB" mixture. . . or you could even stand them off from the hull a 1/2" or so.

Re: stringer help

Hi Nelson,
Welcome to the drydock...you will get all the help you need here from a ton of very knowledgeable guys...

As has been mentioned, we like pics, they help us see what you see and give you the best advice...

Ask all the questions you can think of, and even some you haven't thought of yet...;)

Pressure treated plywood is NOT a good choice...neither is Pine, which I see in a couple of the pics you already posted...

Arauco, Exterior Grade, Underlayment, Fir, or Marine Grade Plywoods...

If you read through the index in this link, you will find a "bible" of information about fiberglass...

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=510077

And here...

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=234392

Also, this is a glossary of fiberglass related information...

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=286013

The types of cloths you should be looking for are CSM and 1708...available from many suppliers here in the U.S., some I think, will ship to Canada...

Sorry, I can't help with Canadian suppliers...

Best of Luck,
GT1M

PS- yes, you can use PL Premium Adhesive...most don't becuase of the long cure time...PB is way faster...

Re: stringer help

Did you read this...
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread....13#post3586813
You use dowels to suspend the stringers off the hull. Lay down a bead of PB set the stringer then fillet them to the hull. Finish with tabbing. As GT suggested, you should prolly slow down a bit, and spend a few hours reading the links posted. You will learn a lot and prolly find the answers to most of your questions, and see lots of pics to illustrate how to do the things you will be doing.

Rip and tear it off .. if its that easy to get off with a pair of gloves and a crowbar .. then its not good for the boat.

If you tear through the hull by hand ... better have found that weak point now than on the water.

Grind and/or tear off any bad delaminated glass before you start tabbin on bad glass.

Re: stringer help

Never heard of it being used for stringers. My research tells me it prolly would not be structurally suitable. Just my opinion. I'm no expert.
