Hi there everyone, I am in the middle of tearing up a 1970 21 foot sportcraft with f14crazy, and have a few questions. On the stringers that are still good, the glass job is bad, as you can see in the pics, there seems to be only one layer over the stringers, there's gaps, and even some areas that are not even glassed toward the bow. It seems to be just one layer of 40 oz roving or so, with open holes in the roving along with a lot of spots where the lamination was sloppy and the glass isn't stuck to the hull or the stringer.
What should be done about this? Also, in the bilge and very middle bottom of the boat, was another stringer, is there a reason than anyone knows as to why there is a wooden stringer, in the bilge, which was also barely glassed over (is completely rotten).

The stringers are not continuous and just butt-up to the bulkheads (which are solid, mostly, except that they're 2x12's with an extra 2x4 nailed to the bottom of them for the extra height needed). This goes against what I know with how the stringers should be continuous instead of the bulkheads.

Any suggestions are welcome and thanks!

Better to take the extra time and redo anything that looks sloppy, it would be a shame to do all this fine work and develop a soft spot 5 years from now because you overlooked something. Sounds like you could do a little to improve on the engineering, and how water tight the glass job is. (which should be 100%)

I've been assisting Brian with the demolition so far.

I can't decide whether the stringers are original or not because there seems to be both fabric layup and chopper gun glass. The other portions of the bulkheads are hardly glassed in and are just kind of floating there with little to no contact with the hull. As mentioned there seems to be just one 40 oz layer which certainly isn't waterproof. My Bayliner had a considerably thicker encapsulation. With the sloppy glass and construction of the stringers I don't see how it's held up as an offshore boat.

seems like it'll be best to tear it all out (sigh)
