HI guys,
im going to rebuild my stringers in my 91 wellcraft. my question is the fiberglass surrounding the wood is very thick. i was hoping i could get all the old wood out and fill that cavity with foam(pourable kind). Will this work? The fiberglass itself can hold me standing on it and i weigh over 230 pounds. Pros and cons to this?

Re: Stringer Question?

I think that'd be pointless, and expensive. Fill the stringer cavities with Seacast if the fiberglass is still there. Cut off the tops, fill and cap it off with a few layers of glass. They'll be strong and last a long, long time.

Re: Stringer Question?

My stringers in my 1979 thompson are filled with foam, came like that.

As long as the stringers are thick, I see no problem. I could auctually stand on the other side of the hull glass, that outer glass was VERY thick and very strong.

The stringers just play a supporting role in re-inforcing the hull, so I think you could do that. maybe put some more glass on top of the beams.

Re: Stringer Question?

Hmm..this is an interesting thread, i was thinking of doing something cluse to the same. I have a 97 glastron, the stringers are filled with foam, and were the holes were drilled to fill it with foam is exceptionally "wet"...i was thinking of cutting the top off, removing the foam, re-glass it and then fill it again with foam..same concept..you have rotted wood, i have water-logged foam.

Never heard of Seacast. What is it?
