i got a 87 bayliner capri open bow, i am replacing the floor and i am adding two more stringers for extra support. i am using 3/4 plywood that i cut perfectly to fit in the hull and coated it with expoxy resin,i plan to glue them down with super expoxy glue.my question is do i half to wrap fiberglass cloth around the stringer to the hull and epoxy them or will just glueing them down will do?thanks

brad,

The stringers need to be attached to the hull via a mat and resin bond. Without it, you have little strength and rot will creep in again, in short order.

Re: stringer question

You definately need to glass those stringers to the hull, and the floor needs to be screwed to the stringers, the floor needs to be glassed to the hull and transom, and the transom needs to be fully glassed to the hull. It all ties together to give the boat its strength. Any shortcuts can lead to a failure, especially in rough water. You do not want that hull to be flexing like a wet noddle, it will crack and fail, not to mention develop hooks and bows which cause poor and dangerous handling.
