stringer repair

My Angler boat has a wooden stringer between the hull and the floor that has rotted. I'm concerned that this is going to weaken the hull strength. Reckon I could fill the void with "Great Stuff" expanding foam to solidify the floor/hull? I won't if someone has tried and failed in this attempt. Is there any other alternative short of a total restore?

GREAT STUFF Foam is NOT great stuff. It has no place in your boat. You should replace the wooden stringer the correct and right way or not do it at all. Your corrrect about the hull being compromised by the rotten wood.

Re: stringer repair

Limping along with a temp fix, especially trying the great foam stuff, is a bad idea. You may want to check out seacast as this could be an alternative to putting wood back in and could work in this situation.

The bottom line thought is to do it right even if it takes a little longer.

Re: stringer repair

the seacast thing will be way to expencive......

foam is not a replacement for stringers......but proper 2 part pour in foam could work......it also could deform your hull....

unless you want to scrap the boat......its time to roll up the sleeves and start ripping
