I have a 22ft silverline that has rotten stringers. Ihave pulled up all the rotten wood and almost ready for glassing. My question is what thickness of mat should I be using and how many layers.Example: two layers of 1 1/2 oz mat or one layer of 24oz. double bias. Or am I in need of a better book.

Re: stringer replacement

You may find that with the heavier 18 oz mat that it will not adhere to the top of the stringer. You may get a bit of a cap on it. This is because the mat is a tad to heavy so you may have to slice it down the middle. I had this problem last week and almost decided to end my rebuild with a match!
