I just bought a 98 gs 185 with a 3.0 engine. I know these same boats came with different size's of engines. Are the stringers on each side of the engine where the engine mounts bolt up to them spaced the same as my boat that came with the 3.0? I'd like to put a v6 in it but not if i have to run new stringers if thats the right term.

I posted this in the glastron forum and thought i might get more hits about it here.

time to get out your tape measure

sometimes there are angle brackets bolted to the insides of stringers to allow for closer spacing

I'm sure you're right dubs and the angle brackets i can deal with. I was hoping someone with the same model would run across this thread who might tell me the spacing on theirs with a v6 in it .

Your base mounts that sit on the stringers are going to be 22 1/2" on center.

Is there a diagram that shows me what you're saying? Do you think my stringers are in the same location as GS 185 with a V6 in it?

I would bet money on the fact that all the models have the same stringer spacing since any boat can have any engine drive combo.
If you change to a V-6 be aware you will also have to change your outdrive for one that is properly geared for a V-6. Not so cheap now is it?

I'm hoping you're right.

Considering my credit is shot it's not like i can go out and buy the $15,000 dollar boat i want but i am a good engine builder and plan on doing a thread on my engine build. A 4.3 300 H.P. using an odd fire crank nice rods and pistons. I'd bet i can do the gear change for cheaper than i could buy another nice used sx cobra.:D
