It has probably been posted here somewhere but is clear fir an acceptable wood to use for stringers? I'm having a dificult time finding douglas fir unless I order far more that my project calls for. I also thought about laminating ply for stringers. I did laminate 3/4" marine ply for the transom which made a real solid piece of wood.

What are some alternative options for stringers?

E.E., some would just use laminated, epoxy soaked plywood as you suggest. Most likely work real well. I, however, like the idea of Doug Fir. You might check and see if you have any building material salvage yards in your area. Old used DF would be the best. It's cured and it's tough. Just a thought.

Re: Stringer Wood

i was lookin' for boatbuildin' wood onetime.. NONE TO BE FOUND,, untill i really looked.. found so much,, it was silly..

lowes here sells doug fir.. clear fir will work good but doug has better rot resist..

just coat multi-coats of epoxy (2)...

best stringers are wood sandwiched between 3/8 doug fir ( home center ) exterior ply..
marine ply is not need since it'll be a laminate..
