The PO or the last person to work on my boat was good enought to strip out the hinge pins. Now the tool just clicks around inside.

Any one delt with this before?

I see in the manual that you can apply to to get them out, but the pic is not to clear as to the spot exactly. I think it is on the bell housing right where the threads are. I'm also going to talk to dealer where I'm getting the new pins to see if they have any ideas.

I'm going to get a new set today so can see exactly what I'm working with. I'm assuming right now they are made of stainless.
Not sure how that's going to help me at this point. But none the less they must be out to continue.

Know anybody with a TIG welder? Weld a washer to the top of the pin, then weld a nut to the washer. Comes right out. Takes about 2 minutes.

That has crossed my mind. I do have a tig to us if needed. Not sure how good of welder the owner is.
I'm going to ask him later today.
Thanks

Ayuh,... You might try a 1/2" allen key, or maybe 13mm, being slightly larger....

Re: Striped out hinge pins.

I got them out.
I went and bought a new hinge pin tool. This one fit amazingly better, and they came right out.
My other brand new tool that I bought 2 weeks ago never fit as good as the one I just bought. This loose fit caused it to strip off. I will replace the pins and keep the newest tool.
I'm going to about returning the old one. Also the newest seems to be a machined tool where the old new one is a cast toll. I think there may be something to that part.

Re: Striped out hinge pins.

Well after getting the pins out, cleaning them and a vary careful inspection of the pins and both tools.
My conclusion is:
the original new tool was of such poor quality that it is the fault of damage to the pins, not the PO.

Needless to say I won't be buying anymore tools without seeing them first.
