I bought this engine this august and decided to winterize it. The bottom sparkplug is tapped and helicoiled and now the new one wont go in...:mad-new:
I am wondering if this is normal? It seems that it is stripped out as well. Is there a helicoil for helicoils? Or do I have to replace the whole head assembly because one bad plug hole?

All is not lost, there is alot of different types of threaded inserts to repair that, not just helicoils, I use quite a few differant types in machining, I'm not sure what type would be best for your particular head, hopefully someone with more knowledge of repairing of heads will chime in :) but should most likly be repairable.

I found some but it doesnt seem to come with the part that the plug actually screws into. Just the cap for the head. Sorry that I dont know the terminology for that...

No need to replace the head, any good machine shop can replace the heli-coil with an insert. Inserts are much better than heli-coils and are the preferred fix for a spark plug hole.

You can also check with your local parts house. I know there are other things out there besides heli-coils.

For that kind of money or even less I can get a parts motor.--Minus lower unit as dealers get quick money for them.

Find a timecert I believe that is the correct spelling. It has a two stage tap and you red loctite a copper or brass bushing into the threads. Most two stroke shops have them already and are more than willing to install them. I rebuilt a shovel head and was making hot passes and reading the plugs the third or forth pass all the threads came out on the plug. If you take care and time and pack the tap with grease you will not have to pull the head but be sure and scope the cylinder for cuttings. I went ahead and did both cylinders on that shovel and last time I looked she had about 80,000 miles on the timecerts and zero problems. Just a thought.
