1972 Envinrude 50hp, hydro-electric shift. Rebuilt the lower unit and noticed the drain screw hole was stripped. The screw with the nylon washer would not grab the threads, but without the washer it would tighten down. For a temporary fix I put an o-ring on the screw and it is tight. Anyone have any thoughts on to repair this? Could I use a longer screw or tap it a size bigger? Thanks

it can be heli-coiled with a 3/8x18 helicoil. the coil will need to be shortened about 3 threads to fit properly

I can't find 3/8x18 helicoil, all I can find is 3/8 x 16. Anybody know where I can this size?
Thanks

I think it may be 3/8 X 16. Part 391441 is the kit. 0391444 is the insert if that is correct. Try the plug in a nut of that size to be sure.
